Rudy Cortes

Hey there! I'm Rudy, and I've got a thought or two about content generation pipelines that I would like to share with y'all.

I'm currently a Technical Art Lead at Amazon Games (since 2020), where I get to work on some pretty awesome gaming projects. But my journey in CG goes way back—25+ years to be exact, and gosh, I'm getting old!

Over the years, I've had the privilege of working at some incredible places:

What I Do

I specialize in building scalable pipelines and tools that help artists focus on what they do best, creating amazing art, rather than wrestling with technical overhead. Whether it's developing custom asset management systems, optimizing rendering workflows, or creating tools that just work, I'm passionate about removing friction from the creative process.

My expertise spans: - Pipeline Development - Making complex workflows simple and reliable - Technical Direction - Bridging the gap between art and technology
- 3D Rendering & Ray Tracing - From pre-raytracing days to modern real-time engines - Asset Management - Because finding the right file shouldn't be a treasure hunt - Tool Development - Python, C++, web services, databases—whatever gets the job done

Why This Blog?

After 25 years of seeing the same problems crop up in different studios, I've learned a thing or two about what works (and what definitely doesn't). This blog is my way of sharing those hard-won lessons, practical solutions, and maybe preventing some of the headaches I've seen teams go through.

I believe in production-tested tools, patterns, and workflows that actually solve real problems. No ivory tower theories here—just stuff that works in the trenches of actual production.

Beyond Work

When I'm not debugging pipeline code or optimizing render times, you'll find me at Urban Aerial Fitness, where I get to help my wife share the joy of aerial arts with our clients. It's a completely different creative outlet, but surprisingly, the problem-solving skills transfer!

Let's Connect

Feel free to use any of the content here in your own projects—just give me a quick shout-out in the credits. And if you've got questions, war stories, or just want to chat about pipeline challenges, drop me a line.

Sharing knowledge is one of the best gifts we can offer each other. It costs almost nothing and can really impact people's lives.

Cheers! 🍻
